Tarneit’s New Train Station: Major Works Now Underway

Unity Park Becomes Even More Connected

Big news: major construction has now begun on West Tarneit Station, and it’s expected to open in 2026, bringing unprecedented convenience to the growing western suburbs of Melbourne. This station isn’t just another stop – it’s a game changer for families, commuters, and residents of Unity Park who value safety, connection, and ease.

What’s Coming in the Final Design

Some standout features in the final designs include:

  • A 4‑bay bus interchange, making smooth connections between bus and train services effortless.
  • Parking for 400 commuters, plus excellent provisions for cyclists – 30 bike hoops and a secure Parkiteer with 26 spaces.
  • A well‑lit, accessible pedestrian underpass with stairs and ramps to both platforms, ensuring everyone can navigate safely.
  • Beautiful landscaping featuring 17,000+ native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses – from wattles and bottlebrushes to flowering gums and local grasses. Bright green tiling in the underpass and splashes of green tones throughout the precinct balance function with aesthetics.
  • Separated walking and cycling paths, and a design built for future expansion (extra tracks, parking and bus services) so the station grows with the community.

How This Benefits The Unity Park Community

  • Ease & Safety: With walkways, secure bike storage, accessible underpass, and carefully planned routes, commuting or running errands becomes simpler and safer – especially for families.
  • Connectivity: Unity Park will be only minutes away from efficient public transport, reducing the need for frequent car use, boosting sustainability, and saving time.
  • Value & Lifestyle: A modern, thoughtfully designed station elevates the appeal of the entire neighbourhood – not just for land or homebuyers, but also for everyday living, schooling, shopping, and community amenities.

The new West Tarneit Station will be located on the V/Line Geelong Line, positioned between the existing Tarneit and Wyndham Vale stations, near the corner of Leakes and Davis Roads.

Some of the other important stops on the Geelong Line include Southern Cross, Footscray, Sunshine, Deer Park, Little River, Lara, Corio, North Geelong, South Geelong and finally Waurn Ponds. These stations help link the region — from the city centre out to Geelong — and make West Tarneit a key new node in that network, bringing more travel options for locals at Unity Park.

As construction powers ahead and the final designs take shape, West Tarneit Station is moving from vision to reality – ready to welcome passengers in 2026. Thoughtfully shaped by community feedback and designed with future growth in mind, it’s a project that truly reflects the needs and hopes of local families. For Unity Park residents, it means more than just a new station – it means smoother mornings, easier weekends, and a lifestyle built around connection, safety and simplicity.
